Firearms Forbidden for MMJ Users

This probably won’t come as a shock to anyone, but on September 21st, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive issued a reminder letter to law enforcement across the country stating that even if you live in a state that has approved the use of medical marijuana, the substance is still illegal, and that using it disqualifies you from buying legal firearms.

How would anyone know? Aren’t MMJ user records supposed to be private? Technically, the medical records are confidential, but the application for a gun permit requires that you state whether or not you use MMJ, and those who are honest about it are immediately barred from buying guns.

A recent story in the Denver Post referred to the application question as another attack on state medical marijuana programs, and frankly I think they were being kind in that wording.

Whatever your position on gun control, asking such a question seems a serious breech of privacy.

One Response to Firearms Forbidden for MMJ Users

  1. Steve says:

The second ammendment does not say anything about this kind of stiupulation. Should those of whom partake in the drug of Alcohol also be prohibited from the purchase/use/ownership of firearms? Under this kind of reasoning, such would be the case! But is that the founding fathers thinking? Apparently NOT! Please site the ‘case in point’ that leads one or another to preclude this kind of debarring of a citizen their ‘unalienable rights’? I’m pretty sure this stipulates the GOD given right to self defence, no … NO, I sm sure this does stipulate this right/freedom even… inhearent and unaleinable right to self defence. Yes, Jesus said to ‘turn thy cheek..’ but when it comes to the usurpation of truth by these so called elected officials, does this not invoke the … I think 9th commandment to ‘not bear false witness against thy neighbor’ ? When one ‘swears’ to uphold the constitution they are mandating that they will adhere to such, but they often do the oposite! I guess we all are guilty of such a missrepresentration, but those in an an elected office do such, they are banking or hopeing on the fact that ‘We The People’ are ignorant of that founding document! Yes, Marijuana has an effect upon the phsyche, but so does all… ALL other drugs! The ones that the doctor prescribes and the over the counter onesw as well. The drug companys are in bed with the politicians, or is it the other way around? Yoy decide for yourself… the age old question …. “What is TRUTH?” .
