Cannabissearch.com Buzz Rating: While this strain is likely to seem weak in potency at first, the full effect will come on strong, after about 15 or 20 minutes. This is a true creeper strain with great potency, once it kicks in.
Unfortunately, the breeder has not chosen to disclose the exact genetics of Barrier Reefer, which is pretty understandable. While not a connoisseur-grade strain, this bud is worth safeguarding against impostors. Too many notoriously famous strains have been attempted to be recreated by sub-par breeders. One such strain is Blueberry, which has at least 8 different breeders claiming to have created it. Koala Seeds obviously did not want this to happen to Barrier Reefer and so they have not released the genetics. Just like the Barrier Reef in Australia, Barrier Reefer is large and chunky. The buds have medium density and a good layering of trichomes. The bright green color and minimal pistils makes for quite an interesting sight.
It's best to vegetate these ladies around 6 to 8 weeks, before inducing flowering. They will usually only double in height at the end of flowering, so vegetating this long is not a problem. The yield is very heavy, especially for an indica-dominant strain and it has a good resistance to most diseases, but few pests. Spider mites and whiteflies have shown to reek havoc on Barrier Reefer, which is why it is recommended to only cultivate these ladies indoors, unless extreme measures are taken against pests.
