News Republican Presidential Candidates' Stance Towards Cannabis

Republican Presidential Candidates' Stance Towards Cannabis

by A. M. Bartell | February 13, 2012 19:48:13 PM CST

First of all, before I say anything further, I should not that some of the text of what's written below include both facts and my own political views. If you disagree with any of them, that's fine. This article was just meant to inform you, the readers. Most Republicans are steadfastly against the use of marijuana, but there are a few who are in favor of legalization - or at least medical marijuana.

First of all, we’ll list the GOP presidential candidates who are more lenient with regards to the subject and legality of marijuana. Ron Paul, for example is very much in favor of legalization and allowing states to regulate medical marijuana without interference from the feds – although we heard basically the same thing from Obama and that hasn’t stopped the raids. While Ron Paul may be the GOP candidate most lenient towards marijuana, some of his other views are quite radical and unfounded. I personally wouldn’t vote for him just because of his stance on marijuana – there are more important issues for this country. For example, Paul is of the belief that 9/11 was our own fault and the fault of our foreign policy – yes, that’s right, he believes that if we didn’t have military presence and U.S. Embassies around the world, that the terrorists would never have attacked us. I’m sorry, but the 2,977 victims of that tragic event deserve more respect that to say it’s their own fault. Additionally, he wants to remove every U.S. Embassy around the world. Pretty radical if you ask me.

Rick Perry, the current governor of Texas, is very much in favor of legalization. In 2007 he also signed a bill in Texas that made automatic arrest for marijuana possession illegal. He’s fairly consistent on the issue of marijuana and, for a Republican, he has great overall views. In my humble opinion, if you’re going to vote Republican, Rick Perry should be the one.

Gary Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico is currently a Republican and very much in favor of marijuana, but he is currently seeking presidential nomination from the Libertarian Party.

Mitt Romney can’t seem to hold a consistent stance on any subject except marijuana. On the subject of cannabis, he has always been vehemently opposed to it. Newt Gingrich… well, let’s not even go there. I personally would elect a chimpanzee over Gingrich.

Below is a link to a informational video that will tell you more. Enjoy.

This is informative and I like that you pointed out, it is important to make a decision based on more than the stance on medical marijuana. Voting is so crucial and I hope that everyone here takes the time to make educated decisions, not just about the president but also the other offices because a lot of times people just focus on that and then pick names of governors and others with no knowledge at all.

I'm sorry, but Rick Perry is just a dumbed-down Dubya. Yes, a dumber Bush Jr. He doesn't belong anywhere on the ticket, and is in way over his head.

Please, if you're a Republican in favor of legalization, don't shy away from the former-Republican new-Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. Fiscally conservative, but socially liberal, strongly in favor of legalization.

Ron Paul blames America? He did not, he blames our foreign policy, not America. There is a big difference.

How would you feel if China came over here and took over our government, patrolled our streets, and killed your family and neighbors? Think you might be upset? And Ron Paul is the radical because he is able to see that our actions come with unintended consequences?

Ron Paul gets more donations from active duty military than all the other candidates combined. Obama comes in 2nd.

He has been endorsed by the former CIA head of Bin Laden unit. And he says the exact same thing as Ron Paul about 9/11. And there are many other former CIA terrorist experts come out in support of Ron Paul. Even the 9/11 commission report says what Ron Paul says.

Here's a video of him saying the same things.

But I guess if you are clueless about what goes on in the world, then it's blaming America.

Drug laws aren't even among the top3 reasons to vote for Ron Paul.

If you're going to share your views try knowing what the heck you are writing about, instead of misinforming the mindless sheeple. Why don't you go back and get a better understanding of Dr. Paul before you post. Good thing you got guest to set you straight..Ron Paul 2012...

Personally, the only thing I think Paul has going for him is that "what you see is what you get" he's not hiding anything and doesn't make promises he can't keep, but I have to say that he's a too far out there for me, I'd just as soon have Obama stay in office. Good, informative videos though.
