This is if anything a good thing, but barely. It states that "police will no longer have to arrest you and take you to jail" for possessing marijuana. They don't have to, but they likely will. A lot of the southern states are very intolerant of marijuana and thus the law enforcement of those respective states will likely make arrests for anything more than a gram or two. Again, this is better than nothing, but needs refurbishing even further.

Wow awesome, good job New Orleans way to take a stand. Also way to realize that if you stop waisting jail space and officer time with such penty things as marijuana possession, thus allowing the focus to be directed on the real threat of violent criminals. Make perfect sences but its just to bad they could go a step further and legalize and tax marijuana. Maybe in the future they will consider doing this to generate more revenue for the city and allowing for expansion of the police force to focus on the real treats even more.

GOOD job new orleans...come to the MMJ light lol we have cookies :)

but on a serious note, i hope new orleans legalizes medical marijuana cause of the crap thats been happening there, they need a break. in my opinion they (the US) just needs to open their eyes and see that MMJ HEALS and always has, and stop trying to find something bad about it

I don't like the juxtaposition to prostitution in particular. the downgrade represents the collective pressure and consensus of society, across demographics. I believe its only a matter of them doing their homework before the gov't is in the game. The only scary part is that the gov't is gangster, do we want them in the game?

Hopefully most of the officers that are involved in marijuana related traffic stops keep this change in mind instead of arresting every single person they come across that is in possession. It'll save a lot of money as well as paperwork.

This is not the most perfect thing but it definitely is a step in the right direction. If more places do the same maybe we can actually see a future of full legalization. One baby step at a time. But still beware there are always those who disagree and are out to prove it was a bad thing.

I'm not sure how good this actually is. They may not have to take you to jail, but you still receive a summons. It may mean less jail time, but instead you might be stuck in probation and drug courts that eat all of your money. It really only helps the government process these charges faster. it doesn't mean a reduced end result

this is much cheaper for the states tax payers, because nw they r not paying fr the enforcement of marajuana. all states should d this t lower tax payers cost.
