People are desperate. How would they know where the grow op is at anyway? Sounds like whoever is in charge of the op needs to up the security.

They definitely need to up the security. I'm also surprised to see that they don't already mix their waste with some sort of chemical to neutralize the effects of any THC, CBD or CBN. I hope a lesson has been learned and I'm glad to see that this has not come up (that we're aware of) in California yet.

I am a dispensary worker in michigan who is responsible for dealing with the cannabis waste. I found it is best to have our all materials sent out for composting. This easily eliminates the risk. These owners should be more responsible and green with there scraps.

Do you guys think that marijuana waste should be treated like hazardous waste?
tell me what you think

I do, simply because of occurrences like these. If we're going to protect and retain our right to obtain our much-needed medication then we need to show the rest of the country that we are responsible in appropriately managing and disposing of any trash. Even the glass jars that I get from the club, if I don't keep them, then I put them through the dishwasher and recycle them.

This article was interesting to me because I didn't even think there would be any waste. If I had extra leftovers I'd be using it for edibles. As Smokestack suggested it would be best to simply use it as compost. I don't see the reason why anyone would waste their time grinding or mixing it with oils, etc., that would seem to be time consuming and totally unnecessary. If mixed with compost you wouldn't have any dumpster security issues either. Now that the word has gotten out this seems to be a rather easy issue to resolve.

It is ridiculous that they are diving for remnants. perhaps they could have been more creative and simply asked fo the waste. also, they could act as trail blazing entrepreneurs and start a non-profit waste pick up service.

In this economy people will do stupid things, more than likely it's kids causing trouble but i agree with all posts. Dispensaries need to be responsible about their disposal methods and we should all compost when possible. The dispensary I got to the most has a recycling program where you can turn in your empty containers / jars for a free edibles, it's a win-win situation that more dispensaries should follow.

I was really shocked to even hear this story, where's the waste. and why the waste, use it for something. If it is the trimmings then find a more secure locale for disposing of them, because I hate to say it but people will dumpster dive as long as they can, the world throws away some really usable stuff. Guess weed is one of them. Sure blew me away, I didn't think that would ever happen.

They dig thru Mcdonald dumpsters for burgers/pizza hut for pizza scraps and kfc for chicken..Did people really think that they were not going to dumpster dive at dispenseries????

Most dispensaries in my area have tight enough security to where no one would even think of trying this. Plus why would the club throw away those things when they can be used in something else or at least properly dispose of them to prevent this in the first place. Sounds like poor management to me.

I think this waste should be disposed of in a manner similiar to hazardous waste from other clinics and facilities. This sucks that bums want to invade the garbage, but hey...that's what bums do. all the industry can do as a whole in Colorado, and probably everywhere, is handle the situation with class and professionalism. Another lesson learned here.

Shit I've seen em dumpster dive for everything now. But seriously what are the people thinking putting that in the trash? Don't they know someone is gonna come get it. Either give it to someone or dispose of it better.

This is crazy. These people are so desperate for whatever they can get their hands on, that they would be willing to go through trash? The fact is that this grow operation should have been properly composting or disposing of their waste as hazardous material, treating it as medicine or other tools of medicine would be treated in a hospital. There is no ecological harm in throwing stems in the garbage can, but there is a difference between personal use at home and an entire cannabis grow operation.

This just seems silly, I cant believe they even have any type of shake, bud, trimming, stems in the trash. There are plenty of things you can do with those products other than throw it away. Although I wouldn't ever expect people to be dumpster diving with welding supplies to burn through locks but I guess people will go through insane things to get what they want. I personally feel that if this is a problem for your dispensary, you could stop this by throwing things away in a secure trash can or just by not throwing it away. Gotta give the people some props for their dedication but really, just watch out for the scum bags for a bit, catch them and turn them in.

I think that EVERYBODY should have access to getting MARIJUANA LEGALLY!!!!! The thought of the FED regulating it sucks, but really, they should allow ANYBODY thats of age (HELL, RAISE THE LIMIT TO 26, or even 31 years old) to be able to purchase it like you can tobacco or alcohol. It really is not fair, and smoking a joint is definitally better than drinking a 6 pack!!!!!!! But they (YOU KNOW WHO YOU/THEY ARE) would rather see people destroying their liver, and getting behind the wheel of a car, where more serious things like DEATH can happen!!!!!!! PUT THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE THAT!!!!!!!

I think everyone should be allowed to smoke weed and buy it.. If the government and all them would let us thy would make a lot of money.. I thought that was all they cared about in the first place...

The problem is taxing a product that most can easily produce themselves. If you cannot control it how can you tax it. The only idea I have heard thus far is let the tobacco companies take over the growth and distribution, do we really want that? Look at the additives that are obviously in our tobacco already. I don't know about you but i prefer by meds without a cancer warning on the side!! Unfortunately until this issue is resolved we will not see "legal marijuana", hell, not even medical if all these idiots wuit breaking the rules (you know who you are. :).
