Fibromyalgia
While further studies still need to be conducted, research from the Institut de Recerca Hospital del Mar, in Spain has shown cannabis to provide significant relief for those with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is chronic ailment that require even more chronic medical marijuana. FM causes severe musculatory stiffness and pain and induces severe exhaustion.
Cannabis contains known effects that help with the muscle pain and stiffness associated with FM. For this a strong indica is recommended, however that may not always be suitable due to the fact that FM causes severe drowsiness as it is. For treatment of both symptoms at the same time, a nice hybrid, perhaps a touch on the indica side is recommended. A strong sativa, such as Jack Herer may also suffice, without inducing drowsiness.
The researchers in Spain tested various subjects with fibromyalgia, both those who used cannabis and who did not. Results concluded that cannabis was shown to significantly reduce the symptoms of FM, as well as their overall state of mental health, while those with FM who did not use cannabis, seemed to suffer slightly more.
While most states do not currently issue medical marijuana prescriptions for fibromyalgia, this research may cause many state who allow MMJ to rethink adding it as a legitimate ailment to receive natural, herbal treatment for.
