What strain would be closest to the weed from the 60s? I can't take the weed today, way too strong. Just one toke and I am too high, heart racing, short of breath, etc. I need that nice mellow cheap green Mexican that we used to get for $20 per ounce and you could smoke a whole joint yourself and just get a nice buzz with lots of mental stimulation but not so much body. Even the old Panama Red and Aculpuco Gold, all were so much more mellow than anything you can get at any dispensary today yet got you higher mentally, but not any physical effects like heart racing, feeling shaky or couch lock like todays weed. If someone could find an old strain like that it would be very popular. Any suggestions?

You might be interested in Harlequin. It's a strain with low THC and high CBD, meaning you will get the medical benefits from it as well as what I consider to be a very mellow buzz from the THC. If you're in Northern California, I know a lot of dispensaries carry this strain.

Thanks. From the 60s I don't recall much in the way of body effects but a lot in the way of head effects. You know, making music sound so much better, when viewing art you see so many things you didn't see before, when eating foods taste like the best food you ever had, etc. etc. And the giggles when something striked you funny. These days I get too much body effects and not enough head effects.

In that case, go for pure or mostly sativa strain. An exception is Jack Herer as this is a sativa that has a fairly strong body high. In general, you'd probably like the Haze varieties. You'd also probably like Blue Dream, which is a Haze cross.

I agree because I have smoked Jack Herer and it was heavy just like an indica, I think it is a very high percentage of THC, it's hard to find definitive information on it. I think that Strawberry Cough is another good one to try, it is a sativa as well and it is a nice head buzz without the heavy body high. A lot of places usually carry it. I also agree that you would like any of the haze strains.

I agree with the suggestion of Blue Dream and another good one is Headband. I find I get high but not baked and can still function out in public. I would also ask at your local dispensary what they think can work best for you and your situation. Otherwise I guess you can try the suggestions here and just experiment a little more.

Just go with something low on thc many of the clubs now test for thc and cbd. It sounds like the current stuff is too strong and that's due to the higher thc content nowadays. Try something around 10% thc.

I recently found some Maui Wowie available in Los Angeles. Not only was it tastey, but brought back a lot of memories. It was priced kinda low and I thought it wasn't going to be that great, but it was. I used to like smoking Thai Sticks, but haven't seen that around for awhile.

Thai Sticks is one of those strains that everyone knows, but never can get. At least I never see it...

The last time I saw any good Thai Sticks was about 10 years ago. If I run into anyone with them I will leave a post here. I remember unwinding those sticks and the anticipation of some fine smoking.

I was under the impression that Thai Sticks (or Tie Sticks) were bundles of weed buds imported from Thailand and bound with cannabis fibers. I think these were really popular in the '60s, but I'd also be interested to hear about a strain you may know about that's actually called Thai Sticks.

Originally, I believe so, it was weed that was laced with opium.

I have not seen real Thai sticks since before "The War on Drugs" started. Late seventies, early eighties. When the 1st Bush had gone from head of CIA to Vice Prez. under Reagan. I have seen quality sensi buds tied to a stick in imitation of true stick and being sold for an inflated price.
