Anyone have any preferences on ways to germinate seeds? I usually place them between several layers of damp (not wet) paper towels or in the pores of a damp (again, not wet) clean sponge. Is there a better way to do this? I find that this way takes between 24 hours and 4 or 5 days.

it's easier to start in a 1-inch cube of rockwool - soak the cubes in PH 5.5 RO water for just a short time - no nutes needed yet - you need an environment with 95 to 100% humidity for the first several days - i built a humidity tent that fits around my germ tray - also, use a heat mat under the tray - place your germ tray (covered with clear plastic tent) 18 inches or so under a gentle fluorescent light - then wait, and don't keep lifting the tent! - in a few days, you'll see the seeds start to sprout - then reduce humidity and increase light by removing tent - use very little or no nutes - let the sprouts rely on genetics at this point - watch as they develop and then choose the best to go forward with - cull out the weaklings as they will always be weak - in 2 weeks or so, transplant your strongest ladies into your growing medium right in the rockwool cubes...hope this helps B)

Here in California you can buy clones already grown to 2 feet then you can flower them immediately getting a harvest in 45 days if you use a low flower time strain. Never germinated seeds but I know the seeds are expensive and they take 4 or 5 weeks.

Yeah I know, you just have to be careful about the quality of these clones and make sure to get them from reputable dispensaries. Otherwise, your plant may not be what you were told or something of the like. But yes, I do that as well.

"I personally like to germinate my seeds that way also but there is another way to start them also and that would be at by going to a rite aid and buying what cost maybe a couple dollarsand its a seed germinator .It looks like a waker or cracker and u sit it in a little dish of water and it blows up it also has a hole where you drop the seed in once it has risen like yeast.I think it also gives the plant a more stable foundation."

The least stressful way would be to soak the beans in distilled water and then place them directly into the dixie cup filled with soil or your prefered medium. Then cover them with a plastic bag or humidome to increase humidity. A few days later healthy babies will poke on through

Or

Soak beans in distilled water. Then place the beans in moist paper towels. Put them in a container or between to dinner plates. Then once taproot is exposed place them in any medium.

They want warm temps high humidity and preferably blue lighting to get an increase in females

Either way works great

Good luck and have a happy growing of a day

I was told that it's easier to get clones because then you know that you are getting a female. Even tho they separate the female and male seeds it still happens that you might get a male seed and it's apparently a pain to deal with. Not to mention expensive.. However, I have seen videos on this site about growing seeds and wish you the best of luck because it looks like too much work for me! but i'm lazy and like that at some collectives you can find clones that are ready to flower..

I really appreciate this Forum for getting new and useful information. I have started seeds with the wet towel proceedure and also bought clones. Last year I had a vegetable garden so I just started seeds in some nutricious soil in small pots and they sprouted within a week. They grew tall and full due to the So. Cal weather and the harvest was as good as any. Sometimes the old school way is simple but still works.

I agree with 818king, the paper towel and darkness trick works the best. Also the fact you shouldn't let them get to cold. Cold isn't ever a real good thing.

I agree with you although I might add that the best pH for germinating as well as cloning/rooting is a pH of 5.5 and distilled water has a pH of 7.0 and would need ajusting.

I germinate my seeds in a plastic cake box. Like the ones you get a b-day cake from the store in. I bought small 2 in starting pots and fill them my soil. Then put a 1 inch deep hole in the center. Drop in your selected seed and cover with soil. Make sure the soil is damp and put the lid back on. I usually just set it in the corner of my veg side and let the light in there provide the heat the seed needs. Generally I have 3 inch sprouts within a weeks time. Next time I germinate seeds I'll do a daily journal so you guys can see how easy it can be.
