This place is great! They are conveniently located in the heart of Hillcrest and have a free parking garage underneath the building!

Hillcrest Organics sells a number of things including buds, edibles and concentrates. They also have various sections for different needs like gardening supplements/supplies as well as different smoking apparatus and other related merchandise. They sell pre-packaged herbs and some patients don’t really like this set up because you can’t really get a good, deep inhale of the bud. They only let you smell it through a hole in a container so you don’t get the best results to make an informative decision. But the buds here did look pretty solid and average cost for grams were $15 to $25, an 1/8th was about $45 up to about $60. They have a Senior discount for patients 55 or older and new patients get a 10% discount on donations. They may have other specials or incentives but I was not personally told of any so you may have to ask when you get here. Also they do add California state tax here so your donation may cost more than you expect. I was in and out of there pretty fast with the help of a friendly staff that took the time to go over all of my questions. They have a large open location that creates a sense of space and ease. This is a good spot for anyone who is going to be planting a garden this spring. Within the next season they may have clones available as well.

The older blond lady who is the apparent owner/manager is not very friendly at all. The first time I went I was denied because I still had my paper temporary California ID, even though I had my non-expired Colorado ID and Cali doctor's rec. I had visited at least half a dozen shops before with no issues, but she denied me. Out of necessity because of how close it is to my house I reluctantly went back. I found that this is not a collective, it is a store. There is a full head shop as well as a hydroponics supply store inside. After walking through all of this, I get to the bud room. Small, pretty dried out samples that are hard to smell. Want a better look? Well, there ain't one because everything is prepackaged. I picked up an 1/8 of their Grand Shadoobie for $55 and a 1/2 gram of some Honeycomb full melt for $25. First time patient gift was a 10% off coupon. Got to the "register" and I was "rang up"(Just like the grocery store, everything has a barcode that gets scanned). Used my coupon, but oh, wait a minute, they charge SALES TAX!! So what I thought would be a $72 "donation" instantly became a $78.30 "PURCHASE"(mind you that I couldn't really care less about $6.30, that's not my beef)! I thought as a member of a club I was donating money for the time, effort, and resources to get the medicine to people who otherwise could not produce it on their own(like me), right? That whole thing really irks me. Just incorporate the tax into your price. In fact, a $55 1/8 ends up being $59.81 with tax. Just charge $60 and collect an extra $0.19 on every one. As for the meds, the Grand Shadoobie is pretty good for a purple strain. Does its job, but it was a little on the dry side. I smoke a lot of OG's, so this was a nice change. The honeycomb was GREAT! Strong, clean, yummy! The first thing you notice about this place is the ample amount of space they have. There's a room with medicating devices. Pipes, bongs vaporizers, etc. It did all looked overpriced to me though, but it is nice that they have them available. My J-27 was a bit on the dry side. I did only buy a gram though. I saw that the 1/8ths were packaged in vacuum sealed pouches, so it could have just been cause mine was in a plastic jar. Kind of smelled like burnt rubber when you cracked open the bud. The high was good, nothing spectacular. The smoke was smooth. The 7-up Kush was a little fresher. It's a sativa dominant hybrid. Claims to be good for daytime use, and it was. The high was energetic and slightly stoney. It was cotton candy like. Very smooth as well.
